Gokujo Genmaicha is Ippodo’s blend of genmaicha—green tea mixed with roasted rice. It has a perfect balance of pleasant roasted rice aroma and classic green tea astringency.
One of the more popular banchas, genmaicha is a mixture of yanagi (large plain green tea leaves) and roasted rice. The rice is roasted at two different levels: lightly roasted and deeply roasted until the rice grains puff. The result is a unique savory flavor and a strong popcorn-like aroma. The quantity of rice is purposely kept to a minimum while there is an ample amount of leaves with a light bitterness. This provides a perfect balance between the roasted aroma and the refreshing aftertaste of the yanagi.
Genmaicha goes well with meals and is tasty as an everyday tea.
- Place 10g (2 tbsp.) in kyusu teapot
- Add 210 ml (7 oz) of boiling water
- Brew for 60 sec.
- Pour into glass full of ice

Gokujo Genmaicha is something I didn't know existed much less tried, but the idea of toasted rice with green tea was intriguing. I love its warm umami flavor and also that it's a hotter tea (212F) for warmth on those very chilly Spring mornings.
Great flavor, freah and mild green tea taste. One of the best green tea brand in Japan.
I used to buy this Genmai tea at Ippudo in Kyoto. I Always loved the flavor of this Genmai tea. When I moved to GA, I tried and retired other brand tea. Now I circled back to Ippodo. I was so happy when the company made it available online. It taste exactly the same as if I bought it in the ancient store on Teramachi.
If you like Genmai tea, this is the best you would find.
very happy with ippodo's genmaicha. I've tried other companies, and I feel this one is perfectly balanced, and true to the described tasting notes. I love it!
