For the seasoned gyokuro drinker who appreciates a rich umami flavor and a slightly thick but smooth texture, Kanro is an excellent choice. With a name that means "sweet dewdrops", Kanro is likened to drops of dew concentrated with sweetness. Though less full-bodied than Ippoen, Kanro is recommended without reservation for even the most ardent of gyokuro aficionados. We also recommend Kanro for those drinking gyokuro for the first time, to experience the richness that this type of tea has to offer.
Being a shade-cultivated tea, gyokuro is rich in theanine-an amino acid responsible for its full-bodied, mellow, and thick sweetness. In Japan, there is a special name for this taste: umami. Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste. Gyokuro fans love this tea for its sweet, less-astringent nature and its deep-green aroma.
- Place 10g (2 tbsp.) in kyusu teapot
- Add 210 ml (7 oz) of chilled water
- Brew for 15 min.
* Make another pot using the same tea leaves. Brew the 2nd pot for 7min., and the 3rd pot for 3 min.

A rich, creamy, vegetal tea. Very rich, smooth, umami forward tea a low temperatures. I liked it best steeped at 140f for 90 seconds. Felt like I escaped COVID quarantine and was in a Japanese garden.
This stuff is some of the best imported teas I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. It is an experience.
IPPODO eakesthe highest quality Japanese Green Tea and Kanru is no exception. The first cup was very rich and sweet without any astringency. I felt a nice energy lift smooth but noticeable. A great value as I was able to make several cups using 1 TBL of tea. It lasts much longer than the 20g of higher grade matcha. I highly recommend Kanru!
