Available only in the spring, Nodoka is one of Ippodo’s popular seasonal-release matchas.
Nodoka, which is Japanese for “serenity,” was named after the bright, warm feeling we get once the days start getting longer in spring.
When you sip Nodoka, the matcha's initial sharpness is soon joined by layers of sweetness and umami, and a clear, fresh fragrance fills the air. In the aftertaste, a faint astringency lingers, leaving your mouth feeling refreshed. Once finished, you may even find yourself whisking a second or a third bowl of this popular, balanced-character matcha. On a rainy day indoors or a long-awaited sunny day outdoors; paired with cookies or on its own after a meal: Nodoka is the perfect matcha to fit the season.
This spring-themed package features flowers of the tea tree, reminiscent of the spring blossoms of Japanese plum and cherry trees. As a present, this lighthearted design will surely cheer the recipient with the brightness of spring.
Characterized by its rich aroma, full-bodied mellow sweetness, and vivid green color, matcha is a favorite among tea lovers in Japan. Ground from shade-cultivated tea leaves, matcha is rich in theanine -- an amino acid responsible for matcha's umami (translates to “savory deliciousness” and is also known as the fifth taste). Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste.

I agree with the description of this matcha being fragrant and refreshing. However, the astringency was more than I'd hoped for. I'm glad I'd tried it, but if given the option between this matcha and a Seiun, I'd choose the latter. At this price point, I'd hoped for more sweetness. It was a matcha I enjoy enough, but I would switch to another matcha if I was craving more. Definitely not one I'd be interested in trying as a koicha.
Sweet taste, pleasant notes of seaweed. I regret only ordering one.
Absolutely love this matcha!
I am new to matcha drinking and decided to upgrade my current supply with Nodoka Limited Spring Edition.
I thoroughly enjoy this matcha:for its clean taste. I love the smell of the powder each time I open the bag. Yes, it’s pricey but Well worth the expense. I also appreciate the beautiful packaging as for me it is part of my experience. It makes a great gift for either the beginner in matcha drinking or a seasoned one. The size is more in a category of a sampler but it makes me feel not wasteful. I tried this matcha both hot and cold, and discovered that it is pretty enjoyable either way. Also, I discovered that I prefer to enjoy this matcha “clean”, as opposed to drinking it with milk. I attribute this to the high grade of its quality and my inclination to savor the aroma and tasty of this matcha on its own. Entirely grateful for allowing myself to try it. Special thanks to the company that appears to be quality-oriented and also provides lots of educational info on its site.

A lighter, sweeter taste. A refreshing change, and excellent value.
This is my second matcha that I got and I am obsessed. Will hopefully buy more before they sell out
I love Japanese matcha, but have always found it super expensive and tricky to locate. My partner purchased the matcha set for me for Christmas and I used all my matcha powder immediately! This special spring tea is so tasty, I definitely feel like I'm appreciating a curated matcha powder targeted for the new season. It's lighter in color than the other matcha that came with the set, but it is also naturally sweeter which is a nice shift as well. Discovering Ippodo Tea's new US online shop couldn't be betterr for my tea obsession! My tea came super quickly and it is delicious. I drink this when I want to have a special tea outside of my normal loose leaf. I would definitely recommend this matcha powder for the new season :)
I love it!
Good color and flavor, mild. Consisitently better than any other company’s matcha I have tried. Very happy Ippodo now has a North American outpost!
Bright color, very nice flavor. Umami seems lighter compared to Sayaka-no-mukashi, but still very good.
