For the most discerning of matcha connoisseurs, we recommend Ummon-no-mukashi. Rich in umami, it is the highest quality tea amongst the Ippodo matchas. We recommended this matcha to experience its characteristic full-bodied, yet mellow, sweetness.
Characterized by its rich aroma, full-bodied mellow sweetness, and vivid green color, matcha is a favorite among tea lovers in Japan. Ground from shade-cultivated tea leaves, matcha is rich in theanine -- an amino acid responsible for matcha's umami (translates to “savory deliciousness” and is also known as the fifth taste). Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste.
This is an exquisite matcha tea at a very good price. Also, very fast delivery.
I'm fairly new to matcha but this brand has the matcha I've ever had!
Ummon-no-mukashi is excellent for making both usucha and koicha but definitely shines as koicha!
Really enjoyed my first cup recently. Smooth and not bitter. Highly recommend try this if you like matcha green tea.
I found the matcha to be fairly good—lots of umami, but more astringency than I expected in koicha at this price point. I also had issues with clumping, but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with Ippodo.
AMAZING...i wanted the premium experience of tasting excellent high grade matcha green tea... Super dark, smells so nice!! and so smooth... Always a great way to start before getting into a creative project or when ever you need a little caffeine boost without the jitters. PLUS... all the health benefits. Worth every penny. .. The packaging of this product is beautiful and nicely designed. Great gift idea for anyone who likes matcha green tea. Thank you! - will be purchasing in the future! :)
Delicious, beautiful, high quality matcha
great quality, nice packaging, amazing matcha!!
Compared to Horai-no-mukashi, slightly more umami smell and taste. Wonderful as a koicha, can really tell the difference in grade.
Love the flavor of this product, it's rich and creamy but very expensive!! 100$ CAD for one 40 G tin works out to be roughly 2.50$ a tsp.
