Tea Strainer (Chakoshi)
The Ippodo Tea Strainer is a high quality item, complete with receiving bowl. The handle of this fine stainless steel strainer and the bottom of the receiving bowl are decorated with Ippodo's seal.
How to use the tea strainer
A tea strainer can be used as a convenient way to sift matcha powder directly into a tea bowl, travelling flask, or other vessel. Use this method when preparing few servings. Use a matcha sieve when filtering large amounts of matcha powder.
- Place the desired amount of matcha powder in a dry tea strainer.
- Filter the powder by pushing it through the mesh using a chashaku (tea ladle) or teaspoon.
Note: Clumps naturally develop in matcha powder. If you prepare matcha powder without sifting it, the matcha will have clumps remaining in it when you try to drink it, which will not be so pleasant. Matcha doesn't dissolve in hot water, so the clumps will not dissolve even if you pour hot water on them. This is why sifting matcha powder in advance makes it easier to prepare.

Great, sturdy product. The stainless steel is not flimsy and thin but thick and cleans easily. Seems like it would last many years and works perfectly with matcha to remove clumps. It's easy to use and works well over a another small bowl, held in my hand, or the receiving bowl. Totally glad I spent the money, as it was a pricey but great investment. Customer service was also top notch when I asked a question before buying it.
Looks lovely sitting with my tea set. Works perfectly and cleans with ease. Looking forward to having this for years to come.
This strainer makes it so easy to make a perfect cup of matcha. Gets rids of all the clumps for a perfectly smooth cup. Wouldn’t make it without one.
I LOVE this strainer! It absolutely changes the game with matcha. I really didn’t believe it would but i am so glad i was wrong! I haven’t tried it with loose tea yet but i plan to. And the strainer itself is so so so beautiful. A wonderful product and one i hope to keep for a very long time!
