Being a shade-cultivated tea, gyokuro is rich in theanine-an amino acid responsible for its full-bodied, mellow, and thick sweetness. In Japan, there is a special name for this taste: umami. Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste. Gyokuro fans love this tea for its sweet, less-astringent nature and its deep-green aroma.
We filled each of these wide pyramid teabags with full leaf gyokuro to produce a tea with classic gyokuro umami, softness, deep green color, and sweet aroma. The tea in these bags would place in the Light category in our gyokuro loose leaf lineup.

These large size teabags allow you to quickly and easily prepare sweet, mellow gyokuro for yourself or a group of friends. The package is re-sealable for freshness, and it comes printed with instructions and a description of the tea in English and Japanese.
How prepare hot
- Put 1 teabag into a pot or other large container and add 10 oz (300 ml) of boiled water
- Wait about 2 minutes before serving
In a carafe
- Put 2 teabags into a pitcher or other large container and add 1 liter of chilled water
- Wait about 1 hour before serving
