Ikuyo-no-mukashi is a matcha with just enough umami to represent the true character of matcha. It also tastes delightful when used to make matcha lattes.
Characterized by its rich aroma, full-bodied mellow sweetness, and vivid green color, matcha is a favorite among tea lovers in Japan. Ground from shade-cultivated tea leaves, matcha is rich in theanine -- an amino acid responsible for matcha's umami (translates to “savory deliciousness” and is also known as the fifth taste). Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste.
I love this matcha, it’s the best I’ve come across! I just ordered three more tins. I wish they came in a larger container. :-)
This matcha is exactly as marketed and named: so smooth, and so creamy. It’s definitely on the milder side, so I would want to try a bolder flavor next time I order, but I think this one is a great starting point for anyone unsure of just how much they like matcha!
I buy for my husband and he loves the flavor of this one due to its hint of sweetness. He drinks it plain, perfect as a daily drink.
Such a delicious smooth matcha.
Excellent matcha, dark green in color.
Best matcha I have ever tasted. Fast shipping.
So I've been drinking matcha regularly for about a year now and I've tried selling different kinds, Ippodo is definitely my favorite! And I really enjoy all three kinds- rich, smooth, & balanced.
I think this is noticeably lighter-bodied than the Kan-no-shiro, but it still works great blended in smoothies and lattes, and is still very high quality.
