This is what sencha is all about

I was born in Japan and am very particular about my tea. This is my go-to tea.

2nd Order

2nd time ordering. Aftertaste balanced precisely between insistent astringency and a light, grassy sweetness. Recalls days at the beach, dark coarse sand dug from below the water level drying on the lighter fine sand of the surface layer.

Lovely tea

Lovely, flavorful tea. I use much less than the recommended amount, and steep longer: perfect. Delicious tea, with subtle flavor notes.

Great intro to sencha

When Ippodo stresses the balance of this tea they are not lying. The balance between sweetness, astringency, bitterness and overall flavor was a pleasant surprise and would certainly appeal to a long-time sencha drinker as well as someone who has only ever brewed from mass-produced teabags and is looking for a change. The tea is high quality, but also hardy enough to stand up to small brewing mistakes (temp too high, brewed to long, etc). I feel the price point is also pretty attractive and very reasonable for the quality of the tea. If you are overwhelmed by the options on the Ippodo site, I can sincerely recommend Shoike-no-o as a good starting point for any loose leaf green tea adventure. Happy brewing!
