Kaboku has a deep, rich character with full umami and a long aftertaste. Recommended for fans of hearty sencha.
Kaboku Sencha – 80g Bag (Kyoto, Japan since 1717)

Ways to Prepare
Our classic recipe for sencha brews a concentrated, full-bodied cup, with a beautiful balance of umami, astringency, and fragrance.
Tried this after the Hosen. Great tea with deeper flavor!

My first Sencha
I was surprised by the bold and almost savory flavor of the tea. The recommended dosage is 10g per 210ml but I found 5g to be right for my tastes. I get about 3 additional steeping for a total of 4. Given it is my first Sencha I don't have a comparison point but I can say that I like it a lot. Following the recommended 60 sec steeping time yields a full flavored pour with just a mild bitter finish.

Sencha for the senses!
This is a big, vibrant green tea that enlivens the senses. My morning ritual since visiting Ippodo in Kyoto in 2018. Personally, an essential ingredient to my well-being!

An Exceptional Japanese Green Tea Worth Savoring
Ippodo’s Kaboku Sencha is a beautiful example of why Japanese green tea deserves to be appreciated as an experience rather than simply a beverage.
From the first sip, there’s a wonderful balance of fresh, vibrant vegetal notes, delicate natural sweetness, and a subtle savory richness that gives the tea remarkable depth. It’s smooth, refined, and incredibly refreshing, with just enough pleasant astringency to provide character without overwhelming the palate. The finish is clean and satisfying, leaving you looking forward to the next sip.
What I particularly appreciate is how the flavors reveal themselves rather than competing for attention. There’s an elegance and complexity here that makes the tea interesting without being overly intense. It’s a testament to the craftsmanship and tradition behind Japanese tea production.
Even the presentation is beautiful. The traditional packaging reflects the care and heritage of Ippodo, making the entire experience feel special.
For anyone looking to explore authentic Japanese sencha or elevate their daily tea ritual, Kaboku is an excellent choice. It’s the kind of tea that encourages you to slow down, appreciate the subtle details, and enjoy the moment.
Beautifully balanced, wonderfully aromatic, and an absolute pleasure to drink. Highly recommended!

good in the same way as Burgundy
The price is off-putting.
But you get what you pay for.
Kaboku is like burgundy wine. Once you taste it you won't want anything else.
