Our main store in Kyoto is where the Ippodo story began in 1717. This shop is located near the old Imperial Palace grounds, on Teramachi Street, which runs north and south through the center of Kyoto.
In the shopping area, customers can browse our wide selection of teas and utensils. Our staff is on hand to answer questions and give personalized recommendations, whether you’re shopping for yourself or looking for a gift for someone special.
At the adjacent Kaboku Tearoom, relax for a moment with a bowl of matcha or a pot of tea. We offer a selection of classic teas and seasonal specials, paired with wagashi sweets sourced from local specialists. Each spot in the tearoom has a different feel, and frequent visitors will enjoy how the mood changes each time they enjoy tea with us.
Before leaving, grab some tea-to-go while you explore the area. The store is located in a walkable neighborhood near the Kyoto subway, with parks, boutiques, shrines, and bakeries nearby. We hope a visit to our store and the surrounding area is a wonderful experience, whether it’s your first time or your hundredth.

After nearly 15 years of serving customers in Tokyo, the Ippodo Marunouchi Store will have its last day on January 15th, 2025.
When we first opened this store, it was our dream to bring the bring the serene café and personal level of service of the Kyoto Main Store to Tokyo. We are deeply grateful to locals and travelers who visited over the years, whether to learn about the joys of Japanese tea, or to relax with a cup in the bustling international hub that is the Marunouchi district.
Unfortunately, the building housing the store is now scheduled for reconstruction, so we are making preparations to move on. Visitors and Tokyo-ites need not despair: we are working on developing a new Tokyo flagship to open sometime soon. Please follow us on social media to see the announcement in the coming months.
Ippodo Tea New York
Temporarily Closed
From its opening in the spring of 2013, the Ippodo New York Store played a crucial role in connecting so many customers to the joys of Japanese tea, as Ippodo's sole location outside of Japan.
This location closed on September 18th, 2022, but currently we are making preparations to establish a new outpost in New York City. The opening of the new location will be broadly announced on this website and on Ippodo social media accounts. Until then, we eagerly await the day when we can greet you at the new New York Store!
