Our main store in Kyoto is where the Ippodo story began in 1717. This shop is located near the old Imperial Palace grounds, on Teramachi Street, which runs north and south through the center of Kyoto.
In the shopping area, customers can browse our wide selection of teas and utensils. Our staff is on hand to answer questions and give personalized recommendations, whether you’re shopping for yourself or looking for a gift for someone special.
At the adjacent Kaboku Tearoom, relax for a moment with a bowl of matcha or a pot of tea. We offer a selection of classic teas and seasonal specials, paired with wagashi sweets sourced from local specialists. Each spot in the tearoom has a different feel, and frequent visitors will enjoy how the mood changes each time they enjoy tea with us.
Before leaving, grab some tea-to-go while you explore the area. The store is located in a walkable neighborhood near the Kyoto subway, with parks, boutiques, shrines, and bakeries nearby. We hope a visit to our store and the surrounding area is a wonderful experience, whether it’s your first time or your hundredth.

Marunouchi Store Closed Permanently on January 16th
The Tokyo Marunouchi Store was our first standalone outpost outside of Kyoto. For almost 15 years, it was a serene oasis for enjoying Japanese tea in the heart of Tokyo. Due to building reconstruction plans, we needed to move from this location in January 2024.
Coming Feb. 17, 2025 – Shin-Marunouchi Building Store
Our new hub for Ippodo Tea in Tokyo is scheduled to open soon in the basement (B1) of the Shin-Marunouchi Building, right next to the iconic Tokyo Station.
Stop by after lunch for a tea break, and escape the bustle of the city. At this shop, you can pick up delicious teas to-go, brewed by Ippodo’s experts, and sip them at the counter-style seating area. Of course, an extensive selection of loose teas and matchas will also be available to purchase, whether you’re looking for a souvenir or something for your own enjoyment.

Ippodo Tea New York
Temporarily Closed
From its opening in the spring of 2013, the Ippodo New York Store played a crucial role in connecting so many customers to the joys of Japanese tea, as Ippodo's sole location outside of Japan.
This location closed on September 18th, 2022, but currently we are making preparations to establish a new outpost in New York City. The opening of the new location will be broadly announced on this website and on Ippodo social media accounts. Until then, we eagerly await the day when we can greet you at the new New York Store!
