Matcha Sieve (Furui)

This sieve is specially designed to sift larger quantities of matcha in preparation for a tea ceremony.

OriginJapan
When you open newly purchased matcha, you may find that some of the powder has formed small clumps. Clumps tend to form naturally in matcha powder due to static electricity, moisture, and the powder’s own weight when it is left to sit for long periods of time. Once clumps have formed, the matcha can no longer be whisked properly and the taste is not as smooth. This item is specially designed to prevent that by sifting matcha powder and breaking up clumps. Made in a convenient small size, it can be used to sift matcha in advance before a tea ceremony, or used at home

Keeps matcha conveniently sifted for me rather than using a strainer daily

Matcha Sieve
I've had my eyes on this product for a while, and I am glad I finally bought it. This helps me keep my matcha powder from going everywhere. The item quality is also very nice and well built.

Great, but a bit difficult to clean
If I had to choose again, I might go for the other style of sieve that just goes over the cup. This style of sieve is somewhat difficult to clean. It's recommended not to use water and a dry cloth only, so there are bits of powder that I can't get out from the edges of the grate without using Q-tips/a dental pick. Otherwise does its job nicely...

Works
It reminds me of the one my grandparents had. The latest matcha I bought at the store had huge, hard clumps in it right from the beginning. I can usually deal with small clumps but these refused to dissolve in the hot water. This burui really helped to knock down the largest clumps but I wish the strainer mesh was a little finer.

matcha sieve
This is worth $18? Not even SS mesh for the screen? Machca gets into the crevices between the mesh and the metal and is difficult to wipe out. Would not recommend since cannot be raised out given the clinginess of the macho. A simple screen without the can is a better solution.

Great product
I needed a Matcha sieve, I took the advice of Ippodo Tea Co. Very nicely made sieve that works great. Do not wash, it will rust. Either use a dry brush or knock out excess.
