For the most discerning of matcha connoisseurs, we recommend Ummon-no-mukashi. Rich in umami, it is the highest quality tea amongst the Ippodo matchas. We recommended this matcha to experience its characteristic full-bodied, yet mellow, sweetness.
Characterized by its rich aroma, full-bodied mellow sweetness, and vivid green color, matcha is a favorite among tea lovers in Japan. Ground from shade-cultivated tea leaves, matcha is rich in theanine -- an amino acid responsible for matcha's umami (translates to “savory deliciousness” and is also known as the fifth taste). Generally, the higher the grade, the richer the umami taste.

Best matcha and very good service!
Great matcha. Very smooth. Ordering and delivery were very good.
Definitely some of the best matcha I've ever had. Almost no bitterness and such a smooth flavor :)
Absolutely the best Matcha on the market!!
My wife and I are huge matcha fans. And some times we do some serious blasphemous recipes with matcha. When I first got my can of mukashi, I immediately made matcha macchiato, and lord it is DELICIOUS! The earthy smooth texture and slight bitterness is amazing! Followed by a subtle sweetness of ground up added rock sugar, it’s a beautiful taste. A significant difference from the Kyoto dew I’m used to making. The quality of Ippodo is far superior to several other matcha brands in my household, and that truly reflects its price.
My wife and I will continue to buy this in the near future. Currently we’re down to 20g of the 40g can I ordered. Looking forward to buying 2 more 40g’s!
My only complaint is that the portion is too small of this AMAZING tea.
I’m glad I bought 40 grams! It’s soft and approachable, but has enough background complexity to hold my interest through a session. Will likely buy again!
The mouthfeel of this matcha highlights why this is the top of the line for Ippodo. Lots of umami, a very pronounced sweetness, and long aftertaste. Very pleased. It's one of the best combinations of body and sweetness that I've experienced from a matcha.
