Frequently Asked Questions
What material are Ippodo’s teabags made of?
The cup-size and teapot-size teabags are made from biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA), derived from natural starch sources like corn. Biodegradable PLA eventually breaks down into carbon dioxide and water.
How do teabags compare with loose-leaf tea?
Teabags have a lighter flavor overall. Our cup-size teabags use both mecha (shoots and buds) and konacha (flakes) of that tea type, and you can rebrew them once or twice. Our teapot-size teabags use whole leaves and stems. Our loose-leaf teas are made from leaves only.
For the full taste experience, choose loose-leaf tea. For convenience and ease of preparation, choose teabags.
Do you sell samples or a variety pack?
We do not currently offer sample sizes. Our Teabag Assortment includes three types of Japanese green tea: gyokuro, sencha and hojicha. Matcha is not included in the assortment.
